Understanding the Bi Jie Pattern in BaZi

Bi Jie is one of the hardest BaZi patterns to judge because the same help can be useful at one stage and lead to financial loss at another. You have to work out whether it is Beneficial or Unfavorable, when the chart needs it, and when more of it becomes too much.

A Chart That Needs Help

Consider this chart: Xin Wei, Yi Wei, Jia Chen, and Wu Chen. Jia, a yang-wood stem, is the day stem. It was born in Wei, an earth branch, during the Wei month.

The Earthly Branches contain many rooted Wealth stars. Bi Jie, the Peers and Rivals who share or compete for the same resources, has only a little root in Wei and Chen, another earth branch. Its strength is therefore insufficient.

In this situation, Bi Jie can help. The chart has a large amount of Wealth to handle, so support from peers is useful: friends can join you in the work and help you turn your fortunes around. At this stage, that support serves a purpose.

When Help Becomes Financial Loss

The judgment changes once the person enters a ten-year Bi Jie Luck Cycle. If Bi Jie gains one or two roots, it may already have enough strength to handle the Wealth. The person no longer needs others to come in and divide the resources. More Bi Jie at that point leads to financial loss.

Sometimes a single root is enough to bear the Wealth stars. Any further Bi Jie is still unfavorable because it can make financial loss more likely.

That is why proportion matters so much in reading Bi Jie. You have to judge when its strength has gone too far and when it still falls short. Finding that point is hard, which is why people say that anyone who truly understands Bi Jie has mastered one of BaZi’s hardest judgments.
